Interest Groups
BOOKS
The AAUWBookClub meets once a month, usually on the second Monday, at the Cafe Voltaire in the Tannery on First Street, Benicia at 1:30. Coffee and pastries are available to order.
As a group, we review current literature or a book of interest and select a paperback book of any genre for discussion for the next month. During the year, we usually have one dinner and attend a movie or play that is significant to our reading selection. The group is flexible and informal.
BRIDGE
Bridge Group meets every month on the 3rd Tuesday at 7pm. The hostess provides goodies to eat which are usually snacks of nuts, pretzels, cookies etc. and soft drinks and or wine. The sessions usually end by 9-9:30pm. Everyone is welcome from beginners to pros for a social evening of bridge. We accommodate up to four tables and usually the hostess is a volunteer from the bridge group. Two to three days before the bridge date, the hostess telephones all previous players to get commitments to ensure that there will be enough players.
BUNKO
Bunko is a fun dice game. It takes no talent but givess people an excuse to get together. We usually meet at a member's home the third Wednesday of each month to play. Everyone brings a snack to share. Bunko most likely began in the U.S. during the Gold Rush when swindlers came to San Francisco to con money out of the laborers. "Bunko" is a synonym used to refer to financial scams. Although, Bunko has come a long way from the early gambling days, we still have a lot of fun (Legally!).
NEW ADVENTURES
New Adventures is a group devoted to having fun! We go on field trips that seem interesting, we cook, do seasonal activities - whatever the members suggest. We do not have a set meeting time or place. Watch the Newsletter or check the calendar-LINK for upcoming events. We welcome all members with a sense of fun and adventure.
